The Best GTX 1660 Ti Graphics Cards 2022

No question about it, the GTX 1660 Ti is currently one of the best graphics cards for anyone looking for something in the mid-price segment. Some even say it is currently the best mid-range GPU. GTX 1660 Ti can achieve high frame rates in 1080p and is at the forefront when it comes to 1440p gaming.

Because anyone looking for an affordable GPU will find that this Nvidia Turing card is the best graphics card to achieve the optimal price/performance ratio.

Of course, not all GTX 1660 Ti models are created equal, as they differ in terms of performance, features, price, or cooling. To help you make a decision, we have put together the best GTX 1660 Ti graphics cards in 2022 for you in this buying guide.

PNY GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB XLR8

Ventilation:1 Fan
GPU clock:1500 MHZ
GPU Boost:1815 MHZ
I / O:1xDP; 1xHDMI, 1xDVI
Memory: 6 GB
Power consumption:125 W
Recommended power supply: 450 W

The PNY GTX 1660 Ti XLR8 makes the prelude in our comparison as the cheapest model. Here you get a mid-range GPU with which the latest games run in Full HD at maximum details and a low price. Although GTX is in the name, the 1660 Ti doesn’t use the Pascal architecture found in cards like the GTX 1060 or GTX 1070. Instead, the GTX 1660 Ti uses Nvidia’s new Turing architecture, known as “TU116”.

Although there are no fancy functions such as ray tracing or tensor processors for DLSS, the ray-tracing function should also be available on the 1660 Ti in the future via a driver update.

This model from PNY is a very compact version so that it fits into a Micro-ATX housing without problems (possibly even mITX). Even if there is only one active fan here, that does not mean that the card is getting too hot. Especially in terms of gaming performance, the small model surprises with strong performance and can easily outperform the old GTX 1060 and keep up with the GTX 1070 and RTX 2060 in terms of frames.

Sure, the GTX 1660 Ti is a graphics card for Full HD, but Techradar got games like Resident Evil 2 and Anthem to run at 4K and ultra details at 30FPS with the PNY XLR8.

Overall, the PNY GeForce GTX 1660 Ti XLR8 OC is a fantastic graphics card at a reasonable price, albeit with a few compromises in cooling, design, and overclocking, and the volume of the individual fans.

The most important performance data:

  • The maximum measured temperature under load: 72 ° C
  • Volume: No exact information available
  • 3D Mark Time Spy Benchmark (Non-OC): 6502
  • Good price
  • Very compact
  • Solid performance for the price
  • Cooling is not the best
  • Limited OC potential
  • Fan a bit louder

ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Twin Fan

ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Twin Fan
ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Twin Fan
Ventilation: 2 Fans
GPU clock:1500 MHZ
GPU Boost:1770 MHZ
I / O:3xDP; 1xHDMI
Memory:6 GB
Power consumption:122 W
Recommended power supply:450 W

If you’re looking for one of the quietest cards in the series, then be sure to check out ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Twin Fan. The Zotac Twin Fan in a completely black plastic housing is slightly longer than the two recommendations above but slightly narrower. Two fans sit in the middle above the heat sink and provide the necessary air circulation, but unfortunately, the backplate is also missing here.

Zotac’s aluminum heat sink uses a copper base and three heat pipes to keep the card cool. The slightly curved fan blades are supposed to optimize the static pressure and airflow, which works well, but the card gets a bit warmer under load than the other models from our comparison.

This is possibly due to the lower fan speed, especially since the card runs extremely quietly under load. So if you don’t mind that a little more heat and you are just looking for the quietest GTX 1660 Ti, then you’ll drive well with the Zotac.

In any case, the 1660 Ti from Zotac does slightly better in benchmarks and gaming performance than our first two recommendations. Monster Hunter World can easily get to 66 (FHD) and 40 FPS (WQHD). In Farcry 5, you get 94 and 70 FPS.

If you are looking for a compact and, at the same time, smooth-running GTX 1660 Ti with two fans, you will certainly not be disappointed by this Zotac card. The most important performance data:

  • The maximum measured temperature under load: was 74 ° C
  • Volume : Idle 28 dBA, under load 30 dBA
  • Overclocking: Performance increase of 10% possible in games
  • 3D Mark Time Spy Benchmark (Non-OC): 6579
  • Extremely quiet under load
  • Cheap
  • Energy efficient
  • Problems with manual overclocking
  • No backplate
  • A little warmer under load

MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Gaming X

Ventilation:2 Fans
GPU clock:1500 MHZ
GPU Boost:1875 MHZ
I / O:3xDP; 1xHDMI
Memory:6 GB
Power consumption:116 W
Recommended power supply:450 W

With the MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Gaming X, we are entering the high-end segment of this series of graphics cards. With the high boost rate, elegant design, top performance, many extras, and good cooling, you get a lot for your money here.

MSI is also using an updated TWIN FROZR 7 cooler here, which uses two 9 cm TORX 3.0 fans. This combines the advantages of conventional and dispersion fan blades to generate an enormous airflow. The new coverings of the fan blades generate a

concentrated airflow for higher air pressure and, at the same time, reduce noise. As you can see from the numbers below, this principle works both in volume and cooling.

Apart from the casual gray gunmetal look, you get a high-quality metal backplate and beautiful RGB lighting, configured via MSI Mystic Light.

Demanding games like Metro Exodus run with ultra-details and FHD resolution with 47 FPS, Witcher 3 runs with the same settings with a smooth 92 FPS (and can keep up with a Vega 56). You can also easily play on WQHD resolution here, but you have to adjust the details a bit with some titles.

The Gaming X Edition was developed with price performance in mind and is only a few more expensive than the reference card. Definitely a top card with good cooling, solid performance, and low volume. If you are looking for a really stylish GTX 1660 Ti with a good factory overclock, you will find it with the MSI Gaming X.

The most important performance data:

  • The maximum measured temperature under load: 65 ° C
  • Volume : idle 29 dBA, under load 37 dBA
  • Overclocking: 2030 ~ 2070 MHz are possible, the performance increase of up to 8% in games
  • 3D Mark Time Spy Benchmark (Non-OC): 6702
  • Good cooling performance
  • Strong gaming performance
  • High-quality design with nice extras
  • A bit expensive

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Gaming OC

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Gaming OC
Ventilation:3 Fans
GPU clock:1500 MHZ
GPU Boost:1860 MHZ

Memory:6 GB
Power consumption:116 W
Recommended power supply:450 W

Although the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Gaming OC 6G from Gigabyte is not the flagship of this series (the Aorus version is clocked slightly higher again), it offers the best price-performance. Good cooling, a generously high-performance limit, and RGB lighting, including a backplate, offer you a good overall package.

From the front, Gigabytes Gaming OC looks very similar to its big brothers from the RTX 2060 and 2070 series, especially since they are all more than 28 cm long, 11.3 cm wide, and 3.9 cm thick. Much of this design’s added length is due to the familiar Windforce 3X cooler that protrudes from the rear edge of the circuit board. Of course, this cooling solution can handle the 120W of the GTX 1660 Ti more than well. However, the 1660 Ti Gaming OC 6G uses “only” three heat pipes for the heat sink, while the RTX 2060 uses four. The three 80mm fans come to a complete standstill when idling, so you have complete peace outside of gaming.

Although you get a backplate here, it is, unfortunately, only made of plastic. For the price, we would have expected something noble like the MSI Gaming X. The RGB also only has an illuminated Gigabyte logo. MSI is ahead here too.

All in all, Gigabyte has fully focused on the performance of this graphics card, and you get it. The cooling is good, but we would have wanted a bit more for three fans. If you want it to be a 1660 Ti from Gigabyte, you can alternatively have a look at the flagship, the Aorus version, which puts another shovel on top.

The most important performance data:

  • The maximum measured temperature under load: 65 ° C
  • Volume : idle 0-29 dBA, under load 38 dBA
  • Overclocking: 2050 Mhz, performance increase of 6-11% in games possible 3D Mark Time Spy Benchmark (Non-OC): 6883
  • Excellent performance
  • Good OC potential
  • Good cooling with 3x fan design
  • A bit louder under load despite 3 fans
  • In terms of price only in the midfield
  • Very clunky

Ventilation:3 Fans
GPU clock:1530 MHZ
GPU Boost:1890 MHZ
I / O:2xDP; 2xHDMI
Memory:6 GB
Power consumption:131 W
Recommended power supply:450 W

If you want a perfect all-rounder with the best cooling in the 1660 Ti series, then the ASUS ROG STRIX GTX 1660 Ti OC  is your model. This Oschi is the flagship of ASUS and comes with all kinds of features. The card has a large triple-fan with a large cooler, RGB support, a dual BIOS, a metal backplate, and a high factory overclocking. You also get two 4-pin PWM fan headers for synchronizing your case fans and an RGB header for connecting other RGB components.

However, all of these features come with a very high price, which is unfortunately often too high (sometimes so expensive that you could get yourself an RTX 2060).

The large ASUS heatsink uses three long heat pipes and three axial fans to keep the card cool (and is certainly one of the largest in the series). Due to the perfect cooler, you have a lot of overclocking potential here, which you should use to get the maximum benefit from it.

The overly large heat sink and fan make this model more than twice the size of the PNY GTX 1660 XLR8 Gaming OC and most other versions of the GTX 1660 Ti. Asus claims this card can deliver 140% more airflow than other models equipped with conventional blade fans. All of this ultimately results in a graphics card that can achieve higher clock speeds while staying nice and cool.

Unfortunately, this card’s price performance depends on how well you can overclock it, as it simply cannot keep up with the RTX 2060 with the default settings because this much more powerful GPU WITH ray tracing is already available for a few dollars more. Alternatively, the slightly lower clocked ” Advanced Version ” of the ROG Strix,

more. Alternatively, the slightly lower clocked ” Advanced Version ” of the ROG Strix, which is 20-40 dollars cheaper.

The most important performance data:

  • The maximum measured temperature under load: 58 ° C
  • Volume : idle 29 dBA, under load 32 dBA
  • Overclocking: 2034 Mhz, performance increase of 9% in games
  • 3D Mark Time Spy Benchmark (Non-OC): 6734
  • Very quiet
  • Coolest GTX 1660 Ti
  • Top performance with most of the features
  • Extremely chunky
  • Extremely expensive (often too expensive – wait here for it to be lowered)

Summary of The Best GTX 1660 Ti Graphics Cards

Our tip: If you add around 50 dollars to your budget, you can often get yourself an RTX 2060, which will give you significantly more performance and is also more future-proof. If you are looking around, you can find good RTX 2060 cards for 330 $.

If you want a GTX 1660 Ti, then we recommend the cheaper models. Because some models are overpriced and offer you a lousy price performance. We hope that the 1660 Ti will be a lot cheaper in the future, which would justify a purchase.

Benchmarks: How it fares against other cards

In general, the performance of the GTX 1660 Ti is on par with the old GTX 1070. We have compiled all the important benchmarks for you so that you can compare them properly.

Partner card benchmarks

other in terms of performance that you can make your choice based on the look, your budget, and things like volume and temperature. When gaming, you won’t notice a big difference in terms of performance, the FPS differences are virtually non-existent.

Frequently Asked Questions

Buying Advice: Is this the right Card for you?

Since you now know which GTX 1660 Ti models are currently the best on the market, we would, of course, like to explain to you what you should pay attention to before buying. We also give you some benchmarks that can make your decision a lot easier.
The Asus ROG Strix 1660 Ti Advanced is an extremely expensive version

For whom is the card worth it anyway?

The most important question for you is when a GTX 1660 Ti is worthwhile for your build and what it can do. Therefore directly Tacheles:
If you’re looking for a good graphics card for 1080p gaming of AAA games with a high refresh rate (144hz) and high to maximum settings, then get one. It is also suitable for 2K gaming to a limited extent if you turn down some graphics options. However, if you only want to play eSports titles like Fortnite, LoL, Dota, or CS, you can get a much cheaper RX570 (8GB) or GTX 1650 Super.

Which 1660s should you get?

We would actually always recommend the 1660 Super, especially since you can get it 50$ cheaper and the performance is almost identical to the 1660 Ti. 1660 only makes sense if you can find an excellent offer.

GTX 1660 Ti vs. RX 5600 XT vs. RX 5700 benchmarks

In the first battle, we let the 1660 Ti compete against two rivals from AMD. Because of the price difference, it is already foreseeable that it will lose out here.

The 1660 Ti cannot really compete against an RX 5700, especially since it is 20- 25% faster on average. The GTX 1660 Ti also looks rather old than the RX 5600 XT, especially since the former gives you around 15-20% more frames when gaming.

We have to recommend the RX 5600 XT, especially since you can get it for 300 dollars. Sure, the 1660 Ti will also support ray tracing in the future (the RX 5600 XT does not), but whether it has enough power to do this is more than questionable. Also, inexpensive 1660 Ti models such as the above from PNY or Palit cost almost the same as an RX 5600 XT from Powercolor.

Against GTX 1060 and RTX 2060: benchmarks

The GTX 1660 Ti easily outperforms the old GTX 1060 by 20-25% in performance, which would make an upgrade worthwhile. However, it has no chance against the RTX 2060: The RTX 2060 is a good 20-25% faster in games and also brings ray tracing and DLSS to the start.

RTX 2060 vs. GTX 1660 TI

If you have the budget, invest in an RTX 2060 (if you can get another one). In some cases, you can get these for a slightly higher price, but this card’s increased performance and future security speak for themselves.

Against GTX 1660 Super & GTX 1660

It gets more interesting if we take a closer look at the 1660 series. But see for yourself:

Here you can see that the 1660 Super and 1660 Ti are virtually on par in performance. Nvidia has taken an interesting step by introducing the GTX 1660 Super because 1660 is completely superfluous due to the significantly improved performance, and the 1660 Ti is only 2-5% faster.

Against GTX 1070 & RX 590

The content clearly shows that the 1660 Ti has the same performance as an older 1070. However, compared to the RX590, it has a good 20-30% more performance in some games.

If you only play eSports titles or are not at maximum details in FHD, then an RX 590 is easily enough. This is just 100 $ cheaper than a GTX 1660 Ti. An older 1070 is an alternative if you can still find it somewhere.
